The NPT Thread

The NPT (National Pipe Thread) thread is the American standard compliant with the AISI B1.20.1 standard and is the second most widely used thread in plumbing fittings. Compared to the GAS thread, it has a 60° thread angle, resulting in a larger pitch (i.e., a smaller number of threads per inch). Another important feature is that this type of thread is tapered, unlike the cylindrical type. Therefore, it generally guarantees a better seal, although the use of gaskets is still recommended.
